Method

Bend spacing = offset height / sin(angle)

Shrink = offset height x tan(angle / 2)

Saddle layout length = 2 x bend spacing + obstruction width

Formula variables

  • Offset height is the required rise or drop in millimetres.
  • Angle is the bend angle used for each matching offset bend.
  • Obstruction width is used for saddle layout length.
  • Spacing is the distance between matching bend marks before field adjustments.

Assumptions

  • Spacing and shrink are geometry estimates based on the entered angle and offset height.
  • Four-point saddle layout adds obstruction width between two matching offset sections.
  • Actual marks depend on raceway type, bender, stub location, bend radius, and field tolerance.
  • This does not check maximum bends between pull points, fill, pulling tension, or local authority requirements.

Examples

30 degree offset. A 150 mm offset at 30 degrees gives about 300 mm bend spacing and 40.19 mm shrink.

Four-point saddle. A 120 mm saddle at 30 degrees with a 240 mm obstruction screens to about 720 mm total layout length.
