Formula variables

  • PF is the entered power factor for the load row.
  • V is the nominal voltage selected for the row or summary.
  • Quantity multiplies each row before totals are summed.
  • Equivalent amps convert the final kVA total to the selected summary system.

Assumptions

  • Each row is converted to apparent power before totals are summed.
  • Power factor is used when a row is entered in kW or when real power is estimated from kVA or amps.
  • Equivalent current uses the selected summary voltage and phase. It is not a service, feeder, breaker, or conductor sizing approval.
  • Demand factors, continuous-load rules, motor starting, harmonics, neutral loading, utility requirements, and local authority review are outside this worksheet.

Examples

Mixed commercial load list. Two 7.5 kW loads at 0.90 PF, a 12 kVA lighting panel, and an 18 A 600 V three-phase load total about 47.38 kVA.

Summary-current workflow. Use the equivalent current only as a planning summary. The actual distribution design still depends on load grouping, demand, nameplate data, and project review.
