This is an approximate reel-geometry estimate. Reel tag, measured payout, supplier data, and actual winding pattern govern material decisions.

Method

Gross layer volume = pi / 4 x (flange diameter squared - core diameter squared) x reel width

Estimated length = gross layer volume / cable cross-sectional area x packing factor

Cable area = pi / 4 x cable outside diameter squared

Formula variables

  • Flange and core diameters define the annular cable space.
  • Reel width is the winding width in millimetres.
  • Cable outside diameter is the entered cable OD.
  • Packing factor reduces ideal length for real winding gaps.

Assumptions

  • The calculator treats the wound cable space as an annulus around the reel core.
  • Packing factor is entered by the user to account for imperfect winding.
  • Cable outside diameter is entered from measured or manufacturer data.
  • This calculator does not replace reel tags, measured length, manufacturer data, or project material reconciliation.
