Assumptions

  • The conversion uses single-phase apparent-power arithmetic.
  • Power factor is editable because generator kW and kVA ratings may differ.
  • Generator receptacle current limits, breaker labels, voltage dip, and surge loads can override the simple conversion.
  • This calculator does not account for surge loads, voltage dip, generator receptacle ratings, transfer equipment, fuel derating, or standby-system design.

Examples

5 kW at 240 V. A 5 kW single-phase generator at 240 V and PF 1.00 estimates about 20.8 A.

10 kW at PF 0.80. At 10 kW and PF 0.80, apparent power is 12.5 kVA and 240 V current estimates about 52.1 A.
